Get the Guide
At the beginning of lockdown all of my speaking and hosting gigs instantly became virtual. I also started working with brands and associations to take their events on-line. One of the things I quickly discovered is that presenting on video from home is very different.
When I turn up at a venue to do a physical gig, there is not much I can do about the stage, lighting and sound. I work with the event organisers and techs to make it work the best for me without making their life too difficult or messing it up for the other speakers. It is all about compromise, not being too precious and having enough confidence in my material to know that I can still land the message.
Being at home on video is a completely different thing. First off, you are the sound engineer, lighting designer, camera operator and that is all before you become the talent. I can remember arriving at my first venue with a proper green room. Now my green room was the kitchen twenty minutes before and it can all get a bit stressful.
This guide started out as a check list for me but as I shared that around helping other speakers get ready for their sessions, I started to get questions - LOTS of questions. So, I put the answers in this guide which covers:
How to keep the bandwidth gremlins at bay.
Building energy and staying on topic when you are by yourself.
Lights, camera, sound and a bunch of other things you have never had to think about before.
These are my tips and tricks but I would love to hear yours. Drop me a line on LinkedIn, Twitter or good old fashioned email.
